متن کاملBifurcations from steady sliding to stick slip in boundary lubrication
We explore the nature of the transitions between stick slip and steady sliding in models for boundary lubrication introduced in J. M. Carlson and A. A. Batista, Phys. Rev. E 53, 4153 ~1996!. The models are based on the rate and state approach which has been very successful in characterizing the behavior of dry interfaces @A. Ruina, J. Geophys. Res. 88, 10 359 ~1983!#. Our models capture the key...
متن کاملOrbit bifurcations and spectral statistics
Systems whose phase space is mixed have been conjectured to exhibit quantum spectral correlations that are, in the semiclassical limit, a combination of Poisson and randommatrix, with relative weightings determined by the corresponding measures of regular and chaotic orbits. We here identify an additional component in long-range spectral statistics, associated with periodic orbit bifurcations, ...
متن کاملDynamics of sliding drops on superhydrophobic surfaces
– We use a free energy lattice Boltzmann approach to investigate numerically the dynamics of drops moving across superhydrophobic surfaces. The surfaces comprise a regular array of posts small compared to the drop size. For drops suspended on the posts the velocity increases as the number of posts decreases. We show that this is because the velocity is primarily determined by the contact angle ...
متن کاملLiquid Drops sliding down an inclined plane
We investigate a one-dimensional model describing the motion of liquid drops sliding down an inclined plane (the so-called quasi-static approximation model). We prove existence and uniqueness of a solution and investigate its long time behavior for both homogeneous and inhomogeneous medium (i.e. constant and non-constant contact angle). We also obtain some homogenization results.
